Professional Development and Networking Opportunities

The Association hosts ongoing professional development and networking opportunities for members. These opportunities are spaced out throughout the course of the year and are held both in-person and virtually.

Recent professional development topics have included:

  • Legal Updates in Special Education and Section 504;

  • Navigating the New Massachusetts IEP Form;

  • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support;

  • Compliance with the New Time-Out and Restraint Regulations (603 CMR 46.00 & 18.00);

  • Graduation and Transition Planning, including the Post-MCAS Landscape;

  • Out-of-District Placement Monitoring';

  • Supporting Multi-Lingual Learners;

  • Educator Retention, Burnout, and Complex Behavior Management.

Access to Massachusetts Education Leaders

The Association works diligently to provide members with access to Massachusetts Education Leaders from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Recent leaders have included:

  • Russell Johnston, Interim Commissioner;

  • Rob Curtin, Deputy Commissioner;

  • Jamie Camacho, Statewide Director of Special Education.

Participation in our Summer Conference

The Association hosts a three-day summer conference in July of each year. This conference includes the following:

  • opportunities for networking;

  • small-group break out sessions;

  • keynote speakers;

  • updates from the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
